Winners of The Best of BenCham 2016 Announced

SHANGHAI - The 5th edition of Best of BenCham Award Ceremony was held on 24th, November at Swissôtel Grand Shanghai. Organized by the Benelux Chamber of Commerce in China (Shanghai Chapter), the ceremony announced the winners of three Awards. Belgium chocolate brand GODIVA won the KBC Best Company Award; Webpower, a Dutch leading marketing automation company, won the De Wolf Best Team Award; and Dutch artist Peter Riezebos received the Rising Star Award.

The ceremony was joined by distinguished guests from the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg) Consulate-Generals in Shanghai, and the representatives from leading Benelux companies. A special guest, His Royal Highness Prince Constantijn van Oranje from the Dutch Royal family, also attended the event.

According to a 2016 Business survey conducted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, about 60% Dutch companies made a profit in China in 2016. Almost half (46%) of the companies in China still expect the importance of China market for their company’s strategy to increase in the next two years. The main areas companies consider for investment in their Chinese branches are sales and marketing, production, research & development, recruitment and product quality.

As the only Chamber of Commerce that is officially recognised and supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in China, the Benelux Chamber of Commerce, which is also known as BenCham, aims to strengthen the business connections between Benelux and China.

BenCham was established in 2001 and currently contains three chapters which are respectively based at Beijing, Shanghai and the PRD area. It has more than 350 members in China, which consist of large enterprises, small and medium sized enterprises as well as individuals with an active interest in developing their businesses in China.

BenCham strives to build a strong business community in China. Organizing high quality events is one of BenCham’s main missions. Best of BenCham is an iconic event of BenCham that intends to celebrate the successes and accomplishments of Benelux companies doing business in China.


After submitting applications, the candidates were reviewed by BenCham Executive Committee and their partners: RNW Media, TPC Leadership and Amrop. Six finalists were elected from this round on 31st, October. The public voting polls then opened. All six finalists have had the opportunities to create their own buzz to get votes. They also gave an on-stage presentation at the event on this Thursday night, where the final results were announced after the last round of live-voting.


The six finalists of this year’s awards were revealed before the event.

The KBC Best Company Award finalists were:

Godiva – Belgian Premium Chocolate Brand
Godiva made its first debut in China in 2009. By now, they have extended footprint into 24 major cities with 85 stores. To satisfy consumers' taste buds, which are getting more and more demanding and sophisticated, Godiva is constantly evolving their recipes and creating new ideas to provide the highest quality chocolate to customers.

Instore Kids Corners – The World Top Kids’ Play Corner
Instore Kids Corners (IKC) was established in 1999 in the Netherlands. IKC set its first step in China in 2008 by opening up its first factory near Shanghai. Since then, IKC has been providing services to clients in Asia Pacific from China. IKC is well known for its unique design and high quality, which bring them the top-tier clients such as IKEA, McDonald’s and H&M.

The head office of NTS Group is based in the Netherlands. Webpower- Leading Provider of Marketing Solutions
Webpower was founded in the Netherlands back in 1999. Since 2006, Webpower started business in China and is currently among the leading firms providing advanced Email marketing and digital marketing solutions. Meanwhile, Webpower also provides clients with prime tailored service, which consists of solutions from marketing plans and creative design to project management.

Delaware – Global Consultancy Organization
The head office of Delaware is based in Belgium. Currently, Delaware has offices in 21 countries and districts worldwide and holds a China office with over 150 employees. As a prime partner of SAP and Microsoft, Delaware Suzhou Co., Ltd. provides advanced solutions and services for clients in China.

Sibelco – Global Leading Supplier for Mineral Solutions
Sibelco was founded in 1872 in Belgium, nowadays they are doing business all over Europe, America and Asia-Pacific areas with over 10,000 employees worldwide. Sibelco has 16 years of  history whithin China market, during which they built a powerful network of factories and distribution that can cover the whole country. Moreover, Sibelco is also a benchmarking enterprise in EHS realm for its constant innovation and progress in Corporate Social Responsibility.

Based on the strong membership system of BenCham, this award ceremony was sponsored by several member enterprises, which are also outstanding Benelux companies. “Best Company Award” was sponsored by KBC and “Best Team Award” was sponsored by De Wolf Law Firm. The event sponsor of the Best of BenCham 2016 was Xiamen Airlines. Besides, RNW Media and its Chinese-language media platform HelanOnline, also TPC Leadership, Amrop and LinkDesign have partnered up for this event.


Additionally, the winner of the Rising Star Award, Peter Riezebos made a live painting at the award ceremony. He visualized the connection between China and Benelux in a live painting on stage. Peter Riezebos is a Shanghai-based Dutch painter, his creative work encompasses drawings, poetry, installations and fashion andis exhibited globally in galleries and museum. His painting that was created during the ceremony was purchased by Dutch multinational company Philips. The sum of the money will be donated to charity.

As the economic connection between Benelux and China expands, an increasing number of Benelux enterprises are progressing towards a more successful and sustainable business in China. The Best of BenCham 2016 is not only a celebration of successful business practices in China, but also the witness to stronger connections between two economies.
